Modulatory effects of Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. & Perry and Cinnamomum tamala Nees & Ebrem. on toxicity induced by chromium trioxide
Hexavalent chromium trioxide is known to cause diseases like cancer and specific biological effects on the respiratory system. It induces oxidative stress and lead to formation of stable Cr-DNA adducts that contribute to its cytotoxic and genotoxic effects. In the present study, the antigenotoxic effects of Indian spices viz. Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. & Perry and Cinnamomum tamala Nees & E...
متن کاملInfluence of Chromium Stress on Proline Accumulation in Soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) Genotypes
Four genotypes of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) were taken for investigation to know their response towards chromium stress. On the basis of seedling growth vigour index and dry weight, the genotypes JS 355 and P 1 were found tolerant to chromium stress when compared to the other genotypes. The tolerant genotypes had shown higher proline contents in their shoots.
متن کاملChromium toxicity in plants.
Due to its wide industrial use, chromium is considered a serious environmental pollutant. Contamination of soil and water by chromium (Cr) is of recent concern. Toxicity of Cr to plants depends on its valence state: Cr(VI) is highly toxic and mobile whereas Cr(III) is less toxic. Since plants lack a specific transport system for Cr, it is taken up by carriers of essential ions such as sulfate o...
متن کاملSoybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr].
In this chapter we describe an Agrobacterium tumefaciens transformation method of soybean that utilizes mature half seeds and regeneration from the cotyledonary node region. This method results in fertile transformed soybean plants and transgenic seed in approximately 9 months. Using mature half seeds as starting material has proven to be a reliable method that does not require additional wound...
متن کاملChromium: Metabolism and Toxicity
THE most important and most costly industrial disease is contact dermatitis and the most common cause of that is chromate sensitivity. This collection of monographs, edited by Dr Desmond Burrows is timely and fills an important gap in our literature. Chrome is very widely used in industry and its use is increasing yearly, no less than 124 different jobs in industry where workers are exposed to ...
